What Dienogest is used for:
- Dienogest is used to treat endometriosis (painful symptoms due to displaced tissue of the lining of the womb).
Do not take Dienogest:
- If you’re allergic to the active substance or any other component of this medicine.
- If you are suffering from a blood clot in your veins.
- If you ever suffered from a heart attack, stroke, or chest pain due to reduced blood supply to the heart (angina).
- If you have diabetes with blood vessel damage.
- If you have severe liver problems.
- If you have a liver tumor.
- If you have ever suffered from a malignant tumor such as cancer of the breast or the reproductive organs.
Warnings and precautions:
- Talk to your doctor about all your medical conditions before taking this medicine including:
- If you have ever had a blood clot.
- If you have ever had breast cancer.
- If you have a high blood pressure.
- If you have diabetes.
- If have ever had chloasma (golden-brown patches on the skin, particularly of the face).
- Do not use hormonal contraceptives while taking Dienogest.
- Dienogest is not a contraceptive.
- Use other contraception methods if you do not want to get pregnant.
Possible side effects:
- Stop using this product and seek immediate medical help if you develop rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Serious side effects:
- Blood clot formation
- Weakening of the bones
- Liver problems (rare)
Other medicines and Dienogest:
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking, especially:
- Medicines for epilepsy (fits)
- Medicines for tuberculosis
- Medicines for HIV
- Anti-fungal medicines
- Antibiotics
- Blood pressure medicines
- John’s Wort
How to take Dienogest :
- This medicine is indicated for women who have had their first period (menarch).
- Take as indicated by your doctor.
- You can start taking Dienogest on any day of your cycle.
- Continue taking this medicine on days of menstrual bleeding.
- The usual dosing is one tablet daily.
How to store Dienogest :
- Store at room temperature below 86°F (30°C).
- Protect from sunlight.
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package.
- The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
