Gatifloxacin 0.3% ophthalmic solution
What Gatifloxacin is used for:
Gatifloxacin is used to treat eye
infections caused by bacteria susceptible to this medicine’s action.
Do not use Gatifloxacin:
·
If you’re allergic to the
active substance Gatifloxacin, to other quinolone antibiotics, or any other
component of this medicine.
Warnings & Precautions:
·
Talk to your doctor about
all your medical conditions before taking this medicine.
·
Do not use this medicine
for longer than recommended, a second infection may happen.
·
Avoid wearing contact
lenses while being treated with this medicine.
Possible Side Effects:
Stop using this product and seek
immediate medical help if you develop rash; hives; itching; red, swollen,
blistered, or peeling skin; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble
breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the
mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Common Side Effects:

Eye irritation
·
Eye pain
·
Change in taste
·
Tears in eyes

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking.
How to use Gatifloxacin:
Do
not use this medicine on children below 1 year of age.
·
This
medicine is intended for the eyes only.
·
Use
as indicted by your doctor.
·
Look
up, pull down your lower lid and instill the drop. Put pressure on the
inside corner of the eye for 1 minute.
·
For
the 0.5% drops, instill 1 drop every 2 hours (up to 8 times) on day 1, then 1
drop 4 times daily on days 2 to 7.
·
For
the 0.3% drops, instill 1 drop every 2 hours (up to 8 times) on day 1 and 2,
then 1 drop 4 times daily on days 3 to 7.
How to store Gatifloxacin:
Store
at room temperature 68 to 77°F (20 to 25°C).
·
Keep this medicine out of
reach of children.
·
Do not use this medicine
after the expiry date stated on the package. The expiry date refers to the last
day of that month.
Dosage form and
route of administration of Gatifloxacin 0.3% ophthalmic solution should be
prescribed according to therapeutic indication and disease severity of each
individual patient.
