Product Description:
- This medication is used to treat eye infections.
- Tobramycin belongs to a class of drugs called aminoglycoside antibiotics.
- It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
- This medication treats only bacterial eye infections.
- It will not work for other types of eye infections.
- TOBREX® (tobramycin ophthalmic ointment) 0.3% is a sterile topical ophthalmic antibiotic formulation prepared specifically for topical therapy of external ophthalmic infections.
- Tobramycin is a water-soluble aminoglycoside antibiotic active against a wide variety of gram-negative and gram-positive ophthalmic pathogens.
- TOBREX® (tobramycin ophthalmic ointment) 0.3 % is a topical antibiotic indicated in the treatment of external infections of the eye and its adnexa caused by susceptible bacteria.
- Appropriate monitoring of bacterial response to topical antibiotic therapy should accompany the use of TOBREX (tobramycin ophthalmic ointment) 0.3%.
- Clinical studies have shown tobramycin to be safe and effective for use in children.
How To Use:
In mild to moderate disease:
- Apply a half-inch ribbon into the affected eye(s) 2 or 3 times per day.
In severe infections:
- Instill a half-inch ribbon into the affected eye(s) every 3 to 4 hours until improvement, following which treatment should be reduced prior to discontinuation.
How to Apply TOBREX (tobramycin ophthalmic ointment) 0.3%:
- Tilt your head back.
- Place a finger on your cheek just under your eye and gently pull down until a ''V'' pocket is formed between your eyeball and your lower lid.
- Place a small amount (about ½ inch) of TOBREX® (tobramycin ophthalmic ointment) 0.3% in the ''V'' pocket.
- Do not let the tip of the tube touch your eye.
- Look downward before closing your eye.
Warnings And Precautions:
- Before using tobramycin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are:
- allergic to it; or to other aminoglycosides (such as gentamicin); or if you have any other allergies.
- This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
- Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
- Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: other eye problems.
- This drug may cause temporary blurred or unstable vision after you apply it.
- Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires clear vision until you are sure you can perform such activities safely.
- During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
- Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
