What Isosorbide Dinitrate is used for:
- It is a vasodilator and used in long-term treatment and prophylaxis of disorders of the coronary circulation.
- Angina pectoris and rehabilitation therapy following myocardial infarction.
Do not take Isosorbide Dinitrate if:
- Hypersensitivity to Isosorbide Dinitrate
- Acute circulatory failure (shock, vascular collapse)
- Very low blood pressure
- Haemorrhage or those who are volume depleted
- You are taking phosphodiesterase inhibitors (eg sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil)
Warnings & Precautions:
- Use with caution in patients with closed-angle glaucoma (increased intra-ocular pressure).
- Alcohol should be avoided during treatment as reduction capacity may be reduced.
- There is a possibility of precipitating haemolysis (rupture of red blood cells) if you have G6PD deficiency.
Possible Side Effects:
- Headache
- Flushing
- Low blood pressure
Other medicines and Isosorbide Dinitrate:
- Its use phosphodiesterase inhibitors (eg sildenafil, tadalafil and vardenafil) can cause worse low blood pressure
- Orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure upon movement) may occur with the combined use of calcium channel blockers (like amlodipine), anti-hypertensive agents, phenothiazines and tricyclic anti-depressants (amitriptyline, imipramine,doxeplin).
- Use of alcohol may produce severe hypotension and collapse.
How to take Isosorbide Dinitrate:
- For adults above 18 years: the usual dose is one tablet twice daily.
- Do not exceed 240 mg daily
- Do not open or crush
- Swallowed whole with water
- Do not stop the medication if not indicated by your healthcare provider
- Do not use beyond the expiry date
How to store Isosorbide Dinitrate:
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store below 25 °C. °
