Palbociclib 100 mg Capsules


What is Palbociclib used for :

Palbociclib is a medication that is used to treat hormone receptor positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer (type of breast cancer that is in advanced stages or has already spread to other parts of the body) in the following cases:

In combination with an aromatase inhibitor (another cancer medication) as initial endocrine based therapy in women after menopause

In combination with fulvestrant (another cancer medication) in women who suffered from disease progression after receiving endocrine therapy

Do not take Palbociclib

If you are allergic to Palbociclib or any of the ingredients in this medicine. Tell your doctor about the allergy and what signs you had.


Warnings and precautions :

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you develop allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, skin rash, swelling of the face or neck, decreased blood pressure and dizziness. 

This medication may cause neutropenia (low neutrophils level which are responsible for fighting bacterial infections) which can be deadly. Your doctor will make sure to monitor your complete blood count before starting the medication, at the beginning of each cycle, on day 15 of the first two cycles and as needed. Your doctor may stop the medication or decrease the dose if you develop neutropenia. 

This medication can cause harm to your baby if taken during pregnancy. Do not take this medication during pregnancy. If you are a woman of childbearing age, make sure to use effective contraception (birth control) when you are taking this medication and for at least 3 weeks after your last dose. Make sure to tell your doctor if you think you are pregnant or become pregnant. If you are a male with a female partner of childbearing potential, make sure to use effective birth control method during therapy with this medication and for at least 3 months after your last dose. Discuss with your doctor possible birth control methods that you can use. 

This medication may cause fertility problems in males. Make sure to discuss this issue with your doctor if this is a concern for you.

Make sure to tell your doctor before starting this medication if you have liver or kidney problems, chills, fever or other signs or symptoms of infections and other medical problems. 

Make sure to tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. You should not breastfeed and take this medication at the same time. Discuss whether you should breastfeed or take the medication with your doctor. 


Possible side effects :

Possible side effects of Palbociclib include signs of an allergic reaction, like rash, signs of neutropenia (low neutrophils level which are responsible for fighting bacterial infections), like, chills, fever, sweating, toothache, sore throat, mouth sores, abdominal pain, pain or burning when urinating, frequent urination, diarrhea, cough and difficulty breathing, signs of low red blood cell counts and low platelet counts, like, dizziness, bruising more easily, bleeding, difficulty breathing and weakness. Common side effects include infections, diarrhea, feeling tired, loss of appetite, hair loss or hair thinning, abnormal liver blood tests, nausea, rash, vomiting, sore mouth and fertility problems in males.


Other medicines and Palbociclib :

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medications including vitamins, prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines and herbal supplements. Keep a list of the medications that you take.  


How to take Palbociclib 

Adults: 

Recommended initial dose is 125 mg orally once daily for 21 days followed by 7 days off treatment. Your doctor may recommend dose reductions or interruptions based on your response and tolerability to the medication. 

Children:

It is not known yet if this medication is effective and safe in children. 

Take tablet with food in combination with aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant (cancer medications). 

Take tablet with a full glass of water.

Take at the same time every day. 

Do not stop taking your medication without consulting your doctor. 

Do not take cracked, broken or damaged capsules.

Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush, open or chew the capsules.

Grapefruit may increase the level of the medication in the blood. Do not take grapefruit and grapefruit products during therapy with this medication.

Take your medication as directed by your doctor. 


How to store Palbociclib :

Store at 20 to 25°C 

Keep out of the reach of children and pets

Do not use beyond the expiry date mentioned on the box 

Keep medication in its original pack to protect it from moisture 

Do not use damaged pills 

Do not dispose pills in the wastewater or household waste
