How To Use:

The recommended dose :
- Is 20 micrograms once a day for injection under the skin ( subcutaneous injection), in the thigh or stomach region.
- Give the injection at about the same time every day as this can help you remember to take the medicine.
- Inject forteo every day as long as your doctor schedules it for you.
- The forteo treatment must not exceed 24 months.
- You must not have more than one 24-month treatment during your lifetime.
Forteo can be injected with a meal. - Always use FORTEO exactly as your doctor has told you.
- Ask a doctor or pharmacist if you feel unsure.
- Read the instructions for use in the carton for using the FORTEO pen.
- Needles (syringe tips) are not included.
- You can use Becton Dickinson and Company's needles (BD needles).
You should inject FORTEO shortly after taking the pen out of the refrigerator as described in the instructions for use.
- Put the pen back in the fridge as soon as you have used it.
- Use a new needle for each injection and throw away the needle after it has been used once. Never store the pen with the needle attached.
- Never share the FORTEO pen with others.
- Your doctor may recommend that you take FORTEO together with calcium and vitamin D.
- Your doctor will tell you how much to take each day.
- FORTEO can be given with or without food.

If you have forgotten or cannot inject FORTEO at the usual time:
- Give an injection as soon as possible on the same day.
- Do not take more than one injection on the same day. You must not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you stop taking FORTEO:
- If you are considering stopping FORTEO treatment, discuss this with your doctor.
- Your doctor will advise you and decide how long you will be treated with FORTEO.
- If you have any further questions regarding the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Warnings And Precautions:
Do not use FORTEO:
- If you are allergic to teriparatide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
- If you have elevated calcium levels in the blood (existing hypercalcemia ).
- If you have serious kidney problems.
- If you have been diagnosed with bone cancer or other types of cancer with spread (metastases) to the skeleton.
- If you have certain leg disorders.
- If you have a leg disorder, you must tell your doctor about it.
- If you have unexplainably high levels of alkaline phosphatase in your blood.
- This may mean that you may have Paget's disease (a disease that causes abnormal bone changes).
- Ask your doctor if you are not sure.
- If you have had radiation treatment of the skeleton.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
FORTEO may cause an increase in the calcium (calcium) content of your blood or urine.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before or when using FORTEO:
- If for a long time you have nausea , vomiting, constipation, are without energy or weak muscles. This can be a sign of too much calcium in the blood.
- If you have had, or have, kidney stones.
- If you have kidney problems (moderately impaired kidney function).
- Some patients become dizzy or have palpitations after the first doses.
- For the first doses, inject FORTEO when you can sit or lie down if you feel dizzy.
- The recommended treatment time of 24 months must not be exceeded.
- FORTEO should not be used by growing adults.
Children and youth:
- FORTEO should not be used by children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding:
- Do not use FORTEO if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- If you are a woman of childbearing age, you must use safe contraception during treatment with FORTEO.
- If you become pregnant, treatment with FORTEO must be stopped.
- Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any kind of medicine.
Driving and using machines:
- Some patients may feel dizzy after injecting FORTEO.
- If you feel dizzy, do not drive or use machines until you feel better.
