Famvir 250 mg Tablet 21pcs

Famciclovir is used to prevent or treat outbreaks of genital herpes infections, and to treat cold sores (fever blisters) and shingles (herpes zoster). It is also used to treat recurrent herpes infections in patient with reduced immunity.

Do not take Famciclovir

• If you’re allergic to the active substance Famciclovir, to Penciclovir, or any other component of this medicine.

• If you are breast-feeding.

Talk to your doctor about all your medical conditions before taking this drug including:

• If you have liver or kidney problems.

• If you have a rare genetic problem with galactose intolerance, a severe lactase deficiency or you do not absorb glucose-galactose.

This medicine does not stop the genital herpes from spreading to others. 

This medicine may cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how you are affected.

Possible side effects

Stop using this product and seek immediate medical help if you develop rash; hives; blisters; itching; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Other medicines and Famciclovir

• Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking. 

• Probenicid interacts with this medicine. Tell your doctor if you are taking it.

• Therapy should be initiated at the first sign or symptom of a recurrent episode (e.g., tingling, itching, burning, pain, or lesion).

• First episode of genital herpes: 250 mg three times a day for 5 days.

• Recurrent episodes of genital herpes: 125 mg twice a day for 5 days.

• Suppression (prevention) of the recurrence of genital herpes: 250 mg twice a day.

• Shingles: 500 mg three times a day for 7 days.

• Cold sores: 1500 mg as a single dose at first sign or symptom.

• In adults with reduced immunity, for genital herpes, cold sores and shingles: 500 mg twice daily for 7-10 days.

How to store Famciclovir  

• Store at room temperature 68 to 77°F (20 to 25°C).

• Keep this medicine out of reach of children.

• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

• Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.

*Dosage form and route of administration of Famciclovir 250mg tablets and 500mg tablets should be prescribed according to therapeutic indication and disease severity of each individual patient.
