Product Description:

CellCept contains mycophenolate mofetil:

• This belongs to a group of medicines called " immunosuppressive medicines".

CellCept is used to prevent rejection of a transplanted organ:

• A kidney, heart or liver.

CellCept should be used together with other medicines:

• ciclosporin and corticosteroids .

How To Use:

• Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. 


• Contact a doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Dosage:

• The amount of medicine you must take depends on which transplant you have had.
  The most common dosage is shown below. 


• Treatment will continue for as long as you need to prevent rejection of your transplanted organ.

How cellcept should be taken:

• The tablets are swallowed whole with a glass of water.


• The tablets should not be split or crushed.

If you take too much cellcept:

• Contact a doctor or hospital immediately if you have taken too much cellcept, or if someone else has accidentally taken cellcept. 


• Take the medicine pack with you.

If you have forgotten to take cellcept:

• If you forget to take cellcept, take the medicine as soon as you remember and then continue to take cellcept at the usual times.


• You should not take a double dose to replace a missed dose.

If you stop treatment with cellcept:

• You must not stop taking cellcept without consulting your doctor.


• If you stop treatment, the risk of rejection of the transplanted organ may increase.


• Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about the use of this medicine.

Warnings and precautions:

• Mycophenolate causes birth defects and miscarriage. 


• If you are a woman who can become pregnant, you must provide a negative pregnancy test before starting the treatment, and you must follow the contraceptive advice from your doctor.


• Your doctor will talk to you and give you written information, especially about the effects of mycophenolate in unborn children.


• If you do not fully understand these instructions, please ask your doctor to explain them again before taking mycophenolate. 

Do not use CellCept:

• If you are allergic to mycophenolate mofetil, mycophenolic acid or one of the other ingredients in this medicine.


• If you are a woman of childbearing potential and you have not presented a negative pregnancy test before your first prescription, as mycophenolate can cause birth defects and miscarriage,


• If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or think you may be pregnant,


• If you do not use safe contraception, If you are breastfeeding.


• Do not take this medicine if any of the above apply to you.


• If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking CellCept.

Talk to your doctor immediately before using CellCept:

• If you are older than 65 years as you may have an increased risk of developing side effects such as certain viral infections, gastrointestinal bleeding and pulmonary edema compared to younger patients


• If you have signs of infection such as fever or sore throat


• If you have any unusual bruising or bleeding


• If you have ever had a problem with your digestive system such as stomach ulcers


• If you are planning to become pregnant, or if you or your partner become pregnant while using cellcept.


• If you have a hereditary enzyme deficiency such as lesch-nyhan and kelley-seegmiller syndrome


• Talk to your doctor immediately before starting treatment with CellCept if any of the above applies to you.

The effect of sunlight

Cellcept inhibits the body's defenses. As a result, there is an increased risk of developing skin cancer. Limit the time you are exposed to sunlight and UV rays by:

• To wear protective clothing that also covers the head, neck, arms and legs.


• To use sunscreen with a high protection factor.

Age group:

• Do not give this medicine to children under 2 years of age.


• Due to limited data on safety and efficacy for this age group, no dosage can be recommended.

Other medicines and cellcept:

• Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are using or have recently used other medicines. 


• This also applies to over-the-counter medicines, such as herbal medicines. 


• This is because CellCept can affect how other medicines work. 


• Other medicines can also affect how CellCept works.

Before you start taking CellCept, tell your doctor or pharmacist especially if you are taking any of the following medicines:

• Azathioprine or other medicines that suppress the immune system - given after transplants


• Cholestyramine - used for high cholesterol


• Rifampicin - an antibiotic used to prevent and treat infections such as tuberculosis (tb)


• Antacids or proton pump inhibitors - used for acid problems in the stomach such as indigestion


• Phosphate-binding drugs - used in patients with chronic kidney failure to reduce the amount of phosphate absorbed into the blood


• Antibiotics - used to treat bacterial infections


• Isavuconazole - used to treat fungal infections


• Telmisartan - used to treat high blood pressure

Taking CellCept with food and drink:

• Intake of food and drink has no effect on your treatment with cellcept.

Contraception in women using CellCept:

If you are a woman who can become pregnant, you must use an effective method of contraception during treatment with CellCept. This includes:

Before you start taking CellCept:

• During the entire treatment period with CellCept.


• For 6 weeks after you stop taking CellCept.


• Talk to your doctor about which birth control method is best for you.


• This depends on your individual situation.


• Two types of contraception are recommended as this will reduce the risk of unintended pregnancy. 


• Contact your doctor immediately if you think your contraception is not working or if you have forgotten to take a birth control pill.

You cannot become pregnant if any of the following conditions apply to you:

• You have passed the menopause, e.g. At least 50 years old and your last period was more than a year ago (if your period stopped because you were treated for cancer , there is still a possibility that you could become pregnant),


• Your fallopian tubes and both ovaries have been removed (bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy),


• Your uterus has been removed by surgery (hysterectomy),


• Your ovaries are no longer working (premature ovarian failure, which has been diagnosed by a specialist in gynaecology).

Pregnancy and breast-feeding :

• Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant. 

Your doctor will talk to you about the risks in the event of pregnancy and the options for you to avoid rejection of your transplanted organ if:

• You are planning to become pregnant.


• You have skipped or think you have skipped a period. 


• You have abnormal bleeding or suspect you may be pregnant.


• You have sex without using safe contraception.

Breast-Feeding :

• Do not use cellcept if you are breast-feeding.


• This is because small amounts of the medicine can pass into breast milk.

Driving And Using Machines:

• Cellcept has a moderate influence on the ability to drive or use tools or machines. 


• Talk to a doctor or nurse if you feel sleepy , numb or confused, and do not drive or use tools or machines until you feel better.

Ingredients:
