Cefprozil oral suspension 250 mg/5 mL
What Cefprozil is and what it is used for:
Cefprozil is an antibiotic that belongs to second generation Cephalosporins.
Cefprozil is indicated to treat infections of susceptible bacteria in the following indications:
pharyngitis, tonsillitis, respiratory tract infections, otitis media, and skin infections
What you need to know before you use Cefprozil
Do not use Cefprozil:
If you are allergic to the active substances or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, or to any other cephalosporin or penicillin drugs
Warnings and precautions:
· The dosage must be adjusted according to the grade of renal impairment
· Inform your doctor in case of diarrhea, since pseudomembranous colitis has been reported with this medicine
· The result of the Coombs' test can be transiently positive during or after treatment with Cefprozil
· Urinary sugar should be determined enzymatically (e.g. with test strips) during treatment with Cefprozil reduction tests can furnish falsely elevated values.
Other medicines and Cefprozil:
Cefprozil may interfere with these medications:
· Probenecid
· Warfarin
· Oral contraceptives
· Diuretics
How to use Cefprozil:
· Cefprozil is for oral use
· You may take the medicine with food
· Recommended dose for adults and children above 12 years old:
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis: 500 mg once daily for 10 days
Other infections: 250-500 mg twice daily, depending on the severity of the infection, for 10 days
· Recommended dose for chidren between 6 months and 12 years old:
15-30 mg/kg/day divided each 12 hours, for 10 days
Possible side effects:
Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you:
Develop urticaria, rash, tightness of the chest, wheezing, hypotension
How To Store Cefprozil:
· Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom.
· Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
· Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so.
· Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed
